The Adamstown Jazz Dungeon (aka dungeonjazz) is the home of contemporary jazz
in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.
The
Dungeon, located below the Uniting Church in Adamstown,
Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia is a venue dedicated
to presenting the finest jazz musicians in an intimate
setting and at an affordable price.
Since being established
in 1997, the Dungeon has presented many of Australia’s
finest musicians, including, Bruce Mathiske, Judy Bailey,
Bernie McGann, Mike Nock, George Golla and Tony Gould.
The Dungeon prides
itself in providing opportunities for both up and coming
young jazz musicians and local bands, and to this end, has
developed 'Discovery Gigs' – allowing individual
musicians the chance to jam with a professional group;
and 'Jazzcomp'– where amateur musicians and bands
compete for prizes.
With gigs held
on the first Thursday of every month and special concerts
scheduled throughout the year, the Dungeon Jazz Club
is a great way to benefit from all the Dungeon has to
offer. Members receive discounts
and benefits as well as the satisfaction of supporting
their local jazz scene. The Dungeon also regularly features
the Dungeon Big Band. Extremely popular and made up of
17 local professional musicians, the Dungeon Big Band
is in demand to perform at outside venues, concerts and
balls.
