If it's seriously good, affordable, accessible, contemporary, live jazz you're after, then check out www.dungeonjazz.com.au and book online now.
As Newcastle's venue of choice for jazz for more than a decade, dungeon jazz continues to draw a tantalising mix of the best in local and Australian contemporary jazz performers.
Dungeon jazz director, Rod Barnes, says they are really excited with the 2008 line up. "The acts for the first half of the year have now been finalised and the second half will be just as good.
"2008 kicks off in February with the Œso hot they're cool' Funky Do Das followed in subsequent months by the Daryl Aberhart Band, Not By Thursday, Trio Apoplectic and The Dungeon Big Band. We round off the first half in June with the simply amazing Mark Isaacs Resurgence Band.
"Many of these performers enjoy both national and international acclaim, so it's a real buzz to be able to host such high calibre artists," Rod said.
The broad appeal of the music featured at dungeon jazz is, he says, reflected in the audiences. We present contemporary sounding, sometimes edgy jazz, but first and foremost it is accessible and a great experience. For our audience, age is irrelevant. This is some of the best jazz in Australia, music that speaks to all.
A concert/coffee shop style venue, Dungeon Jazz is on the corner of Brunker and Glebe Roads, Adamstown, Newcastle N.S.W., under the Adamstown Uniting Church.
