MEDIA RELEASE
Fri. 25 April 2008
Apoplectic audience.
You¹ll be the one having a hissy fit if you miss the Newcastle premiere concert of acclaimed young Sydney jazz ensemble Trio Apoplectic. Their one-night-only gig is at Adamstown¹s dungeon jazz on Thursday (May 1).
In less than five years, Trio Apoplectic - Dave Jackson (alto saxophone), Abel Cross (double bass) and Alex Masso (drums) - have carved out a reputation as a truly great young Australian jazz group. A journey that has seen them tour a frenetic five times: from regional NSW and Victoria; to Hobart and Perth; to the niche venues of Sydney¹s Jazzgroove, NOWnow and 505 and Brisbane¹s Jazzworx!.
Somehow, they also found time to get their self titled first CD out on the respected Jazzgroove label. The rave reviews included five stars from the Weekend Australian¹s music critic, John McBeath, while the Sydney Morning Herald¹s John Shand said: Œ... more evidence of the strength and depth of younger players... accomplished... collectively assured, with a fine balance of dynamics, intent and realization.¹
³When you check out www.trioapoplectic.com you find a veritable Œwho¹s who¹ of jazz critics who¹ve given them big wraps,² dungeon jazz director, Rod Barnes said this week. ³More than making great music, this group is passionate about the relevance of jazz as a contemporary art form.²
³Any apoplexy will be amongst those who either miss the gig or who, after catching it, want to know why it¹s taken us until now to bring them here!²
