MEDIA RELEASE
Fri. 29 May 2008
Big band blows cool to hot.
Itıs a case of the coolest COOL meets the hottest HOT at Adamstownıs dungeon jazz on Thursday (June 5) when the 17 piece Dungeon Big Band crank it up to deliver a power laden mix of post war swing and contemporary Latin rythms.
First up it will be the works of cool era greats such as Count Basie, Buddy Rich and Dave Brubeck followed in the second half by tunes with a distinctly fresh Latin flavour.
Band leader, Rod Barnes, says itıs all about a shared musical experience. ³A place, space and sound the audience, regardless of age, gets into and enjoys as much as the band.²
³Thursday will be that and more. Familiar but fresh music, delivered with the wall of sound, power and excitement you only get with a full strength big band.²
³Contemporary big band music spans a wide spectrum and, for this concert, itıs great to blend late 20th Century swing cool with the latest in hot Latin sounds.²
³After four years together the band has really found its groove. Highlights last year included the release of our first CD mostly new takes on 30s and 40s big jazz band classics - and then fast forwarding to contemporary jazz pieces for our Sunday Live broadcast on ABC Classic FM.²
³This time around weıre expanding our repertoire just that little bit more.²
